The Grand Théâtre de Tours features Italian-style architecture with a grand staircase, a public foyer, and a performance hall adorned with decorative elements from 1889.
Originally built in 1872 on a former convent site, the theater underwent reconstruction between 1886 and 1894 following a fire that damaged its interior.
The theater serves as the only opera house in the Centre-Val de Loire region, presenting lyrical performances, symphonic concerts, and youth programs throughout the year.
The theater requires extensive renovations estimated at 25 million euros to strengthen the basement, improve safety standards, and enhance accessibility for disabled visitors.
Four specific areas of the Grand Théâtre received historical monument status: the peristyle, honor staircase, public foyer, and performance hall.
