Jardin d'Acclimatation, Amusement park in Bois de Boulogne, France.
The Jardin d'Acclimatation is an amusement park with zoo in the Bois de Boulogne in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, France. It covers 18 hectares with 42 attractions, including carousels, flying chairs, roller coasters and an educational farm with 450 animals.
Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie founded this recreational site in 1860 as the first amusement park of the French capital. The site shifted over the decades from a botanical and zoological garden to a leisure park with rides.
The name literally means acclimatization garden, referring to its original purpose of adapting exotic plants and animals to the Parisian climate. Families now visit mostly on weekends for the rides and play areas, while the farm with its animals remains popular with younger children.
Visitors reach the park through Les Sablons metro station, with opening hours from 10:00 to 19:00 in summer and 10:00 to 18:00 in winter. Most attractions suit young children, while some rides require minimum height limits.
A narrow gauge train dating from 1878 carries guests through wooded areas to the park entrance every ten minutes. The ride lasts about three minutes and follows a short route along the Bois de Boulogne.
