MJC Lillebonne, Town house in Nancy (Meurthe-et-Moselle)

The Hôtel de Lillebonne is a Renaissance private mansion built in 1580 at 14 rue du Cheval-Blanc, on the corner of rue de la Source in Nancy's Ville-Vieille. Its near-square plan measures about fifteen metres a side under a four-sloped slate roof with three dormer windows. The entrance portal, only 1.40 m wide, is framed by two half-engaged columns on 1.50 m stylobates, ringed by six crowns of olive foliage and topped by Ionic capitals; a rectangular escutcheon flanked by two S-scrolls sits above the entablature. Inside, a Renaissance staircase and stucco ceilings survive.

The building was constructed in the late 1500s as a private residence for Claude de Beauvau-Craon and displays Renaissance influences in its facade details such as carved stone decorations and columns. It received official recognition as a monument historique in 1944, ensuring its protection, while it has served since 1972 as a community center for cultural and youth activities.

The name Lillebonne comes from Anne de Lorraine, princess of Lillebonne, who lived here from 1665; it first appears in a 1750 sale deed. Since 1972 the building has housed the MJC Lillebonne-Saint-Epvre, and the Galerie Lillebonne shows contemporary art. A stone plaque on the facade reads "HOTEL LILLEBONNE (ANCIEN) SAINT-EPVRE".

The name Lillebonne appears for the first time in a 1750 deed of sale, long after the Beauvau family had left; it comes from Anne de Lorraine, princesse de Lillebonne, who lived here from 1665. The building was inscribed as a monument historique on 15 March 1944, covering the street facade, the roof and the well in the courtyard.
