Lac Vert, lake at Catus in the Lot department, France
Lac Vert is a 7-hectare reservoir near the town of Catus with gently sloping shores that make it easy to access and walk around. The site features trails for walking and cycling, picnic areas, tennis courts, a beach volleyball court, and a playground for children.
The reservoir was built long ago to store water for agricultural use by local farms and residents. The construction of this dam improved farming practices in the area and remains an important part of the region's infrastructure today.
The lake gets its name from the green tint of the water, caused by algae and aquatic plants living there. Local families gather here to walk, picnic, and spend quiet time together on the shore.
The site is open year-round with parking, restrooms, and a snack bar serving paninis, pizzas, crepes, and ice cream. The area is accessible to people with limited mobility, featuring a dock and special water access equipment.
The water remains remarkably calm even in windy conditions, making it ideal for children playing along the shore and small boats drifting gently across the surface. This tranquil quality is heightened by swans and ducks that regularly swim on the water.
