Jardin botanique du Montet

The Jardin botanique du Montet spreads across a large area featuring around 15 distinct collections that showcase plants from many climate zones. Large greenhouses house tropical species, while open sections contain specialized areas for alpine plants, rhododendrons, and medicinal herbs.

The site was founded in 1975 and inherited plant collections from the older Jardin Dominique Alexandre Godron, which had existed in Nancy since 1758. This link to the earlier institution continues to shape the collections and scientific focus of the garden today.

The garden's name honors Jean-Marie Pelt, a prominent French botanist whose scientific work shaped the institution. Visitors can sense this connection through the thoughtfully organized thematic collections displayed across the grounds.

Access to the outdoor areas is free year-round and offers straightforward paths for exploring the different collections. The tropical greenhouses require a separate fee, so visitors should factor this into their visit planning.

The grounds contain the Sainte-Valérie Chapel, a historic building that stands amid the collections and adds an unexpected architectural element. This small landmark is often overlooked, though it forms an interesting part of the garden's heritage.
