Lake of Lavaud, Artificial reservoir in Pressignac, France
Lake of Lavaud is an artificial reservoir in Pressignac that spans multiple municipalities including Lésignac-Durand. The water body offers designated swimming areas with buoys, sandy beaches, restaurants, and a nautical facility for water sports and recreation.
The dam was constructed in 1989 to create this artificial lake and manage water levels during dry periods in the Charente region. The project addressed the need for better water security in this farming area.
The lake has two main beaches - La Guerlie and La Chassagne - developed by local municipalities to support recreation and tourism in the area. Visitors find a gathering place where water activities connect to the everyday rhythm of the region.
The water is easy to access for swimming at the designated bays and the beach provides space for sunbathing on sand. The area is fairly flat and beginner-friendly, with restaurants and docking areas nearby for added convenience.
The water comes from the Charente River and its tributary the Treize, which feed the lake from a large drainage area. This natural supply system allows it to remain stable even during dry seasons.
