Lac de Ribou, reservoir in France
Lac de Ribou is a reservoir on the edge of Cholet in Maine-et-Loire, built to supply drinking water to the surrounding area. The shoreline alternates between wooded sections and open grassy areas, with footpaths running along the water on both sides.
The reservoir was built in the second half of the 20th century to meet the growing drinking water needs of Cholet and the surrounding towns. Over time, the site shifted from being a purely technical structure to a place open to the public for recreation.
On weekends, families from Cholet come to the shores to picnic, walk, or simply sit by the water. The site has become part of everyday life in the area, where locals treat it as a natural extension of the town.
The lake is well signposted from Cholet and parking is available near the shore. Most of the path around the water is flat and paved, making it accessible to visitors with strollers or limited mobility.
Lac de Ribou is connected to a neighboring body of water, Lac du Verdon, through a shared water management system. The two lakes sit close enough that visitors can walk between them and see both in a single outing.
