Lac du Verdon, reservoir in France
Lac du Verdon is a human-made reservoir located in La Tessoualle in the Mauges region, covering about 280 hectares of water surface. The lake is surrounded by flat countryside with fields and tree clusters, and offers calm shorelines where visitors can walk and enjoy views of the water.
The reservoir was created in the late 1970s by building a dam on the Moine river to store water and help manage local flooding. The project complemented the older Lac de Ribou nearby and eventually became a protected natural area supporting diverse habitats for plants and animals.
The reservoir has become a valued spot for watching birds, with more than 200 species seen at different times of year. Visitors notice the shifting presence of wildlife across seasons, particularly during spring and autumn migrations when many migratory birds pass through the area.
The site has parking areas, picnic spots with tables, and walking paths that are popular during pleasant weather. Dogs are allowed if kept on a leash, and entry to the grounds is free and easily reached by car from nearby towns.
The site has bird-watching facilities where visitors can study wildlife without disturbing it. A network of walking paths connects this lake to the older Lac de Ribou and extends to the town of Cholet following the Moine river.
