Lac de la Ganguise, Artificial reservoir in Molleville, France
Lac de la Ganguise is an artificial reservoir that covers about 278 hectares across five communes with two distinct arms that converge at the northwestern section. The lake has a varied shoreline and multiple access points for visitors exploring the water.
The project was first conceived in 1951, but construction did not begin until 1979 when water was first impounded. A significant expansion occurred in 2007 when the earth dam was raised by three meters.
The lake serves as a stopping point for migratory birds, with viewing spots along the shores where visitors can watch flocks gather, especially in the late afternoon hours.
A nautical base operates from March to December, offering equipment rentals and instruction for sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, and paddle boarding. The site is accessible throughout the year, though water sports activities are most reliable during the operating months.
The lake experiences favorable wind conditions approximately 300 days per year, making it exceptional for water sports enthusiasts. Such consistent conditions allow reliable activity throughout most of the year.
