Le Champ de Mars, Mountain summit in Ardèche, France

Le Champ de Mars is a peak in the Monts d'Ardèche standing at 1,343 meters within a Regional Nature Park that spans across several municipalities. The summit sits on granite formations and offers views across a wide radius of terrain.

The granite bedrock at the summit originated from a major continental collision around 300 million years ago that created the ancient mountain range. This geological event shaped the solid rock formations that dominate the peak today.

The mountain area has a long history of wild blueberry harvesting that shapes how locals use the land. You can see the plants flourishing here and sometimes encounter gatherers working the slopes during peak season.

The main trail to the summit starts from Col des 4 Vios and covers roughly 4 kilometers with moderate elevation gain. Good hiking boots are essential since the granite slopes can be steep and rocky in sections.

A viewing table at the summit offers a complete panorama in all directions and on clear days reveals the Alpine peaks in the distance. This marker helps visitors identify the surrounding mountains and distant ridges.
