Lyceum Ambroise Paré, Historic lyceum in France
The Lyceum Ambroise Paré is a French high school located in Laval, Mayenne.
The school traces its roots to the Collège de Laval, founded in the late 12th century alongside the chapter of Saint-Tugal. In 1582 it moved to the rue Renaise, and in late 1792 it became the Collège national, transferred into the Ursuline convent built by Étienne Corbineau between 1620 and 1626. Under the law of 3 brumaire an IV it was transformed into the école centrale of Mayenne.
Named after the famous French barber surgeon, Ambroise Paré, known for advancing surgical methods.
It serves as a place of learning for secondary education students in Laval.
The school occupies the former Ursuline convent built by architect Étienne Corbineau between 1620 and 1626. Before moving there in late 1792, the Collège de Laval had been housed since 1582 in the rue Renaise. The site has served public education since the French Revolution.
