Le Pâquier, Promenade in central Annecy, France.
Le Pâquier is a seven-hectare promenade along the northern shore of Lake Annecy with wide grassy spaces, century-old plane trees, and paved paths for walking and cycling. The site has multiple entry points, seating areas, and zones for water activities like pedal boat rentals.
The land served as pastureland for cattle in medieval times before the city of Annecy gradually acquired it starting in the 17th century. This transformation turned it into public space for the expanding city.
The site hosts regular events like the Lake Annecy Festival in August with fireworks over the water, along with open-air concerts and local markets throughout the year. These gatherings make it a natural meeting place for both locals and visitors.
Access is free and available year-round, with wheelchair-accessible paths and several entry points from Bonlieu center or Pont des Amours. For longer visits, there are plenty of seating areas along the lake, and it is best to visit at different times depending on the season.
According to local lore, an elderly woman bequeathed part of the land with the condition that it remain a playground for children without any urban development. This condition shaped its character and preserved it as open space.
