Maison rurale de l'Outre-Forêt

The Maison Rurale de l'Outre-Forêt is a museum site with several buildings arranged around a paved courtyard, displaying traditional Alsatian farm architecture. The rooms hold furniture and everyday objects from those who lived there long ago.

The main building dates to 1744 and housed families until 1902. The original furnishings and objects allow visitors to see how people lived across more than a century and a half.

The workshops display traditional crafts like blacksmithing, wheelmaking, and barrel-making as they were practiced locally. Visitors watch how craftspeople worked and what skills these trades demanded.

A visit here requires little preparation, as most information is provided on-site. Comfortable shoes are helpful since you walk between the buildings across the grounds.

A standout feature is the preserved smokehouse where visitors can discover how farmers preserved meat traditionally. This building showcases a practical skill that was essential for feeding farm families.
