Musée de Royan, Municipal museum in Royan, France
The Museum of Royan occupies a former market building with a central hall and lateral galleries designed by architect Louis Basalo in the 1950s.
The museum presents exhibitions about the city's evolution from its first human settlements through the French Revolution and the significant 1945 bombardments.
Collections include displays about the Cordouan Lighthouse, maritime heritage, and a special section dedicated to Pablo Picasso's stay between 1939 and 1940.
The museum received 4,539 visitors during its opening year in 2004 and maintains special rates for school groups visiting the exhibitions.
The Cabinet of Curiosities section contains a treasure of 800 coins from the reigns of Henri III, Henri IV, and Louis XIII.
