Mare à Goriaux

Mare à Goriaux is a biological reserve near Raismes that contains a large lake, forested sections, and waterside vegetation zones. The landscape also includes a flat slag heap and provides diverse habitats across its protected area.

The water body formed as a result of mining subsidence from the Vicoigne and Arenberg pit operations in the region. This industrial past gradually transformed into a protected ecological space.

The site serves as a gathering place for bird watchers and nature enthusiasts who come to observe species in their natural habitat. Visitors walk the pathways and find quiet spots to watch the water and trees, making it a meaningful destination for those who value wildlife.

The site can be accessed through a designated parking area, and opening hours change with the seasons. Summer months offer more daylight hours for visits compared to winter periods.
