Mont de la Charvaz

Mont de la Charvaz, Limestone mountain in Savoie, France.

Mont de la Charvaz is a limestone summit in Savoie that rises 1158 meters above the surrounding landscape. Forested slopes gradually give way to bare rock faces as the terrain climbs toward the exposed peak.

Medieval travelers and merchants used the mountain paths to connect settlements across the Rhône valley region. These ancient routes formed the foundation for the hiking trails that exist on the mountain today.

Local mountain guides organize yearly educational walks to teach visitors about the native plants and geological formations found on Mont de la Charvaz.

The main hiking path starts from Billième village and covers 11.5 kilometers with 800 meters of elevation gain over four hours. The trail is clearly marked and well-maintained, making it accessible to hikers with different experience levels.

From the summit, two distinct observation points provide complete views of the Dent du Chat, the Bauges mountains, and the Rhône canal below. These two vantage spots allow visitors to take in the surrounding landscape from different angles.
