Ouvrage Bovenberg, Military fortification in Éblange, France
Ouvrage Bovenberg is a military fortification in Éblange consisting of six combat blocks linked by underground tunnels. The complex descends 30 meters below ground and houses barracks, service facilities, and ammunition storage areas.
Built between 1931 and 1940 as part of the Maginot Line defensive system, this fort was designed to house around 228 soldiers and 7 officers. It served as an eastern barrier against potential invasion forces.
The fortress represents French military engineering, incorporating defensive elements such as embrasures for rifles, machine guns, and anti-tank measures.
Interior access is not permitted as the entrances have been sealed to prevent trespassing. You can view external structures including gun emplacements and fortified walls from the surrounding area.
The original design called for 18 blocks, but budget limitations meant only six were actually built. One of these blocks was constructed separately from the main complex, creating an isolated structure.
