Cheval-Blanc mountain

Cheval-Blanc is a limestone summit located between the Bléone Valley and the Issole Valley, accessible from several valleys in the region. The mountain rises prominently and offers views across the surrounding landscape of the southern Alps.

The mountain is connected to two aircraft accidents that occurred in 1948, leading to the placement of a memorial cross at the site. These events became a notable part of the mountain's history.

An astronomical observatory has been under construction at the summit since 2005, managed by amateur astronomers for remote-controlled observations.

Access to the summit is best from Saint-Thomas chapel, which involves a challenging hike with significant elevation gain that takes many hours. Visitors should prepare with sturdy equipment and adequate supplies, as the route requires considerable effort and stamina.
