The Opéra de Limoges is an opera house in the city center on Avenue Jean Jaurès with modern architecture and an adjustable ceiling system that allows flexible use of space. The building holds up to 1,484 seats, which can be reduced to 939 depending on needs through its retractable roof.
The building opened in 1963 after a design by architect Pierre Sonrel, replacing the older Cirque-Théâtre from 1840. With its move to this modern structure, the city marked an important turning point in its development as a cultural center.
The venue hosts a diverse program of operas, symphonic concerts, ballet performances, and theatrical works throughout the season. Visitors experience a range of artistic forms that shape the city's cultural life.
