Siège du cercle de l'Union et Turgot de Limoges, 19th century masonic building in Limoges, France
The Siège du cercle de l'Union et Turgot de Limoges is a building with a triangular footprint, featuring a glass-domed winter garden and multiple salons arranged around a central core. Interior spaces are decorated with ornamental porcelain friezes.
The building was constructed between 1875 and 1889 as a masonic lodge headquarters and has shaped Limoges architecture since then. The winter garden addition was completed during the second phase of construction.
Inside, stained glass windows show masonic symbols and representations of the arts, particularly painting and sculpture. These decorations reflect the values that members of the order held.
The first floor contains a library, performance hall, and several ornately decorated reception rooms. As a protected monument, visitors can tour the rooms during special opening times or guided visits.
The metal framework of the winter garden was specially engineered to support the large glass dome and direct soft light into the rooms below. This technical solution was notably advanced for its time.
