Musée d'histoire naturelle et d'ethnographie de Colmar

The Musée d'histoire naturelle et d'ethnographie de Colmar is a natural history museum in a former school building that displays taxidermied animals from the region and around the world, along with minerals, prehistoric fossils, and ethnographic objects. The museum was founded in 1859 by the Natural History Society and has expanded its collections through volunteer work ever since. Continuous effort across generations has made this place an archive of scientific and cultural knowledge.

The museum holds the only ancient Egyptian collection in Alsace, with mummies and Coptic textiles displayed alongside artifacts from China, Africa, and the Marquesas Islands that reflect how collectors documented different cultures.

The museum offers an interactive Escape Game where visitors help an 18th-century botanist identify mysterious remedies while exploring the collections. This activity combines entertainment with learning and uses the historical objects as clues throughout the experience.
