Pont d'Estaing, Gothic bridge in Estaing, France.
Pont d'Estaing is a stone bridge spanning the Lot River that connects the municipalities of Estaing and Sébrazac in the Aveyron department. The structure features four Gothic arches and carries the D22 departmental road across the water.
Construction began in 1490 under the direction of Bishop François d'Estaing and was completed in the early 16th century. The bridge was built to improve passage across the river for the inhabitants of Estaing.
The bridge forms part of the Way of Saint James UNESCO World Heritage route and remains an active waypoint for pilgrims following the Via Podiensis from Le Puy-en-Velay. Walkers still use it as a crossing point on their spiritual journey across the region.
The bridge carries the D22 departmental road and connects with two major hiking trails, the GR 6 and GR 65, at its southern end. You can cross on foot or by vehicle and access several trekking routes from this point.
The central pier holds a statue of Bishop François d'Estaing, sculpted by François Mahoux in 1866. An iron cross now replaces an earlier 19th-century original that once stood on the same pier.
