Pont de Chalonnes-sur-Loire, Road bridge in Chalonnes-sur-Loire, France.
The Pont de Chalonnes-sur-Loire is a reinforced concrete road bridge that spans the Loire River to connect the town with an island in the waterway. The structure carries vehicular traffic on two lanes and includes dedicated pedestrian walkways on both sides.
An earlier suspension bridge built in 1841 stood at this location until it was destroyed in 1940 during World War II. The current concrete structure was completed in 1948 to replace the temporary crossings that served the community in the years following the war.
The bridge forms part of the Loire Valley UNESCO World Heritage site, where numerous celebrations and regional festivals take place throughout the year.
The bridge is open to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic at no toll cost and provides straightforward access across the river. Visitors can walk or cycle across and take in the river views during their crossing.
Local fishermen gather on the bridge's edges throughout the year, making it a social meeting point while catching fish from the Loire River.
