Pôle de Lanaud, Modern architectural complex in Limoges, France
Pôle de Lanaud is a modern complex comprising multiple functional buildings constructed with local Douglas fir wood and concrete structural elements. The site integrates office spaces, a reception pavilion, dining facilities, and gathering spaces designed to work together as a unified facility.
The complex was built in 1991 as architect Jean Nouvel's first rural project and is now recognized as an important 20th century building. This achievement demonstrated that Nouvel's design approach could work effectively in non-urban settings.
The complex serves as the national headquarters for Limousin cattle breeding organizations, hosting evaluations for approximately 700 young bulls annually.
The site is located south of Limoges near the A20 motorway and is easily accessible by car. Visitors should be aware that the facility serves operational purposes and access to interior spaces may be limited.
The eastern facade displays vertical wooden panels arranged in a distinctive pattern with grouped windows that create a rhythmic appearance. The reception pavilion stands out for its glass walls combined with wooden lattice screens that give it a notably light and open character.
