Pont Saint-Martial, Medieval stone bridge in Limoges, France

The Saint-Martial Bridge spans 85 meters across the Vienne River with seven granite arches and features a humpback shape with stone pavement.

Built in 1215 on Gallo-Roman foundations, the bridge served as the sole crossing point over the Vienne River for more than twelve centuries.

The bridge takes its name from Saint Martial, a third-century bishop who spread Christianity among the local population of the Limoges region.

Visitors can access the bridge from 6 Rue du Pont Saint-Martial, which connects the city center to the left bank of the Vienne River.

During the annual Bridge Festival in late June, the Saint-Martial Bridge hosts celebrations with fairs, dances, and fireworks along the riverbanks.
