Cherré, Archaeological site in Aubigné-Racan, France

The archaeological complex of Cherré extends over 44 hectares, featuring remains of a theater, temples, thermal baths, and an aqueduct system.

Initially established as a necropolis during the Hallstatt and La Tène periods, the site reached its peak during the second and third centuries CE.

The Roman-era theater could accommodate 3,000 spectators and incorporated local materials such as red sandstone in its semicircular structure.

The site operates under protected heritage status, requiring visitors to arrange guided tours through the local municipality of Aubigné-Racan.

Archaeological excavations revealed a 4.5-kilometer underground aqueduct that supplied water to different buildings throughout the complex.
