Viaduc d'Eauplet, Railway bridge between Sotteville-lès-Rouen and Bonsecours, France.
Viaduc d'Eauplet is a steel railway bridge that spans 356 meters connecting Sotteville-lès-Rouen and Bonsecours while crossing two branches of the Seine. The structure measures 10.5 meters wide and carries trains on one of the main routes linking Paris to Rouen and beyond.
An original wooden bridge from 1844 was later reinforced and then completely replaced in 1913 by the current steel structure built by Fives-Lille. Two sections were destroyed in 1940 during wartime and subsequently rebuilt in 1945 with American engineering support.
The structure earned the nickname 'Pont aux Anglais' during its construction period and continues to serve as a vital link in the Paris-Rouen-Le Havre railway line.
The viaduct remains active with regular train traffic and can be viewed from river paths or from observation points along the riverbanks. Plan your visit around train schedules since this is an operational railway line with consistent service throughout the day.
Two spans of the viaduct were destroyed in 1940 during World War II and later reconstructed with assistance from American engineering battalions in 1945.
