Île Lacroix, River island in Rouen, France
Île Lacroix is a river island in the Seine that connects both riverbanks through the Pont Pierre-Corneille in eastern Rouen. The island contains a sports center with swimming pools and an ice rink, along with green spaces for walking and relaxation.
In the 15th century, the island was called Île Bras-de-Fer and later bore the name Île de la Mouque until the 18th century. Beginning in 1830, bathing establishments were built here, transforming the island into a recreational destination.
The Guy-Boissière sports center features swimming pools and an ice rink that serve as gathering places for the local community. Training groups and competitions happen regularly here, making it a center where people come to practice sports or watch events.
The island is easily accessible by bus from both sides of the river with multiple lines serving the area. Green spaces are open during daylight hours, though the sports center has specific operating times for its facilities.
Since 1963, the island hosts a major motorboat racing event called the 24 Hours motonautiques de Rouen every May. This prestigious competition has made the island a premier destination for powerboat racing in the region.
