Église Saint-Germain de Pantin, Catholic church in Pantin, France
The Église Saint-Germain de Pantin is a Catholic church in central Pantin with a square tower, barrel-vaulted interior, and a triangular-pedimented porch. The building displays clear architectural lines with a straightforward layout that reflects its reconstruction period.
The original church from the 12th century was declared unsafe in 1649, leading to a complete reconstruction starting in 1664 under the direction of Abbot Richelieu. This rebuilding shaped the structure that stands today.
Inside, stained glass windows by Jacques Le Chevallier and a red marble baptismal font from the 18th century reflect the artistic craftsmanship valued in this place over time. These objects show how communities invested in beauty and religious practice together.
The church is easy to visit since it sits in the center of Pantin and is clearly visible from the street. A major renovation from June 2020 to February 2023 means the interior is in fresh condition for visitors today.
During recent restoration work, builders found the original gold-ochre whitewash from 1664 buried under layers of paint. This historical surface coating was carefully reapplied to restore the building to its original appearance.
