Piscine de Pantin, Art Deco indoor swimming pool in Pantin, France.
Piscine de Pantin is an Art Deco building containing two swimming pools: one original 33-meter competition pool and a 25-meter training pool with consistent 1.20-meter depth throughout. The two pools allow different age groups and skill levels to train at the same time.
The building was constructed between 1935 and 1937 at the initiative of mayor Charles Auray. In 1997 it received official historical monument status.
The building shares its space with the A. Milliat Conservatory, where you can find regular music, dance, and drama classes held in an auditorium seating 250 people. Visitors often notice how these artistic activities are woven into the daily rhythm of the place.
Visits require wearing a swimming cap and respecting different schedules that change during school holidays. The facility is generally open from Monday through Sunday with extended hours most days.
The building originally drew its water supply from nearby industrial hot water wells, making it an early example of energy-efficient municipal design. This clever use of waste heat was remarkably forward-thinking for the time it was built.
