Église Saint-Martin du Cellier, Historical Monument in Le Cellier, France

Église Saint-Martin du Cellier is a church with a Greek cross plan topped by a dome resting on four curved triangular supports. The interior features four barrel-vaulted sections arranged around the central space, creating a harmonious architectural composition.

Architect René Ménard designed this church in Romano-Byzantine style with construction beginning in 1895 under a vision of blending architectural traditions. The building was completed in 1922 under Émile Libaudière's supervision, marking an important period in the region's religious architecture.

The interior walls feature large painted scenes from the life of Saint Martin, including moments of charity and spiritual devotion that shape the worship experience. These frescoes create a visual narrative that connects visitors to the saint's story and the church's purpose.

Visitors can access the church from May through October when volunteers are present to guide guests through the space and explain its features. It is best to wear comfortable shoes and show respect for the sacred space, especially if services are taking place.

Actor Louis de Funès had his funeral service here in 1983 after spending years living nearby at Clermont Castle. This connection links the church to the story of a beloved French entertainer and adds a layer of cultural memory to the visit.
