Notre-Dame-des-Marais, Gothic church in La Ferté-Bernard, France.
Notre-Dame-des-Marais is a Gothic church in La Ferté-Bernard built on former marshland featuring a distinctive double-pitched bell tower. The structure displays architectural elements from different periods due to extensions added along its northern side over several centuries.
The church was established in the 13th century with financial support from King Charles VII. Construction continued over the following centuries with extensions and modifications that shaped the building as it stands today.
The church contains stained glass windows from the 15th and 16th centuries created by master artisans from the local area. These colorful windows tell biblical stories and reflect the craftsmanship that flourished in this region during the Middle Ages.
The church is easily reached from the town center and has parking available nearby. Wheelchair access is provided and regular services are held, allowing visitors to plan their visit accordingly.
The church organ dates from 1532 and features two keyboards with pedals. It was later modified by Pierre Bert, an organ builder who also worked on Le Mans Cathedral.
