Banc-reposoir d'Erstein, Historical bench in Erstein, France

The Erstein resting bench features stone construction with carved backrest and armrests, surrounded by large trees that provide shade to visitors.

This bench belongs to a group of 125 resting benches built in Lower Rhine between 1811 and 1812 to commemorate the birth of the King of Rome.

These resting benches allowed Alsatian farmers to set down their goods and rest during their journeys to local markets throughout the region.

The monument stands along the main road of Erstein, providing visitors with an observation point overlooking the surrounding agricultural landscape.

This resting bench remains one of only six surviving examples from the original 125 structures installed in Alsace during the early nineteenth century.
