Château d'Aunay, Historical monument castle in Aunay-en-Bazois, France.

Château d'Aunay is a castle in the village of Aunay-en-Bazois featuring two stories and square corner towers. A slate roof covers the structure, and a ribbed-vaulted kitchen occupies the eastern section of the building.

The site began as a medieval fortress and was transformed into a residence during the 16th century. A 17th-century renovation adapted it for Charles de Mesgrigny, a descendant of the military engineer Vauban.

The interior woodwork and wall paneling reflect French Renaissance taste throughout the main rooms. These details give visitors a sense of how the residents lived and valued craftsmanship in their daily surroundings.

Visiting allows you to walk through the rooms and see the original furnishings and decorations at your own pace. Take time to look closely at the details of the woodwork and wall treatments throughout the main floors.

The property includes a 17th-century orangery that holds orange trees over 200 years old still in cultivation. Few places maintain such long-lived fruit trees, making this a remarkable display of horticultural continuity.
