Collégiate church Saint-Martin, Picquigny, Gothic collegiate church in Picquigny, France

The Collégiale Saint-Martin of Picquigny is a Gothic collegiate church in the center of Picquigny, in northern France, classified as a historical monument. The building has a cross-shaped plan with a square bell tower rising over the crossing, tall pointed-arch windows, and thick stone walls throughout.

Construction of the church began in the 11th century, and in 1066 a lord of Picquigny formally established a chapter of eight canons and a dean within its walls. Over the following centuries the building was enlarged, and in the 1500s the chancel received a stone vault while the bell tower was raised and given a flamboyant-style crown.

The church served for centuries as the burial place of the lords of the nearby castle, giving it a lasting role in local memory. Inside, visitors can still see painted statues of saints and old paintings that speak to the religious life once centered here.

The church sits in the center of Picquigny, close to the medieval castle and the old town square, making it easy to combine with a walk through the historic area. It is worth checking opening hours in advance, as the building is not always open to visitors.

In the early 1200s, a church official brought back relics from Constantinople, including one said to belong to Saint John the Baptist, turning the building into a destination for pilgrims seeking protection. The containers that hold these relics are still visible inside the church today.
