The reserve extends over 337 hectares, featuring a lagoon system with dunes, reed beds, water bodies, and a 4.5-kilometer-long beach with a 300-meter maritime strip.
The reserve received its name from a woman who prepared meals for workers constructing a dike in the region to prevent flooding due to strong currents.
The Ligue pour la Protection des Oiseaux manages this protected area, documenting 234 bird species and implementing conservation measures for endangered habitats.
Visitors can access more than 6 kilometers of hiking trails and 5 kilometers of beach, while fishing is permitted only on the ocean-facing shoreline.
The site contains 22 natural habitats, with 13 classified as rare in the Pays de la Loire region and 4 designated as priority habitats at European level.
