Hôtel de Mercy-Argenteau, Private mansion in 9th arrondissement, Paris, France.
The Hotel de Mercy-Argenteau is a private mansion in Paris's 9th arrondissement with eleven arched windows across its facade. A grand entrance hall with a decorative glass ceiling defines the interior of the building.
Jean-Joseph de Laborde commissioned architect Firmin Perlin to design and build this residence in 1778. After its completion, Laborde sold it to Count Mercy-Argenteau, an imperial ambassador.
The first floor contains a refined salon with columns and decorative reliefs above the doorways that showcase classical craftsmanship from the 1700s. The interior design reflects the taste of the period when it was built.
The building is privately owned and normally closed to the public, but certain areas may open during special heritage events throughout the year. Check ahead to learn about any scheduled public access opportunities.
From 2013 to 2019, this mansion served as Mozilla's Paris headquarters, bringing together 18th-century architecture and modern tech work in one space. This surprising chapter shows how historical buildings adapt to contemporary uses.
