Musée de la lunette

Musée de la lunette, Eyewear museum in Hauts-de-Bienne, France.

Musée de la lunette is a museum in Hauts-de-Bienne dedicated to eyewear and optical instruments. The collection holds around 2500 rare pieces from different periods, forming one of the world's most substantial collections of its kind.

The museum was founded in 2003 in Morez, a town with deep roots in eyewear manufacturing. Starting from 1796, local craftspeople there shifted their nail-making skills toward producing spectacles.

The museum displays eyewear worn by famous figures like Sarah Bernhardt and members of the French royal family. These pieces show how closely glasses connected to personal style and identity across generations.

The museum welcomes visitors Wednesday through Sunday and offers time to explore its extensive collection. Summer months bring extended hours in July and August for greater flexibility when planning your visit.

Pierre Marly, a renowned eyewear designer, created glasses for famous actors and contributed significantly to the museum's holdings. His designs show how spectacles became an essential accessory for Hollywood personalities.
