Fontaine Sainte Radegonde, Chapel-fountain in La Châtre, France

The chapelle-fontaine Sainte-Radegonde, also known as la Grand Font, is a 15th-century chapel-fountain in La Châtre, France, listed as a historical monument. It is built on a six-sided base with three niches: two serving as chapels and one giving access to the water source.

The structure was built in the 15th century at the foot of the old keep of La Châtre, showing it was once part of the town's fortified ensemble. It was officially listed as a historical monument in 1925, following restoration work carried out in 1853.

Sainte Radegonde was a 6th-century Frankish queen, and her name is deeply rooted in the region's traditions. One of the niches holds a small statue of her, which visitors can still see today.

The structure is located on the Rue de la Fontaine in La Châtre and is clearly visible from the street when walking through the town center. A daytime visit is best for seeing the stone carvings and the decorative details on the niches.

The top of the base was once crowned with a calvary, which has since disappeared. Some of the gables are still decorated with curly-kale finials, a very specific Gothic ornamental motif from the 15th century.
