Promenade du Paillon, Greenway in Nice, France
Promenade du Paillon is a 1.2 km green corridor in central Nice, designed by landscape architect Michel Péna and opened in 2013. It links the Promenade des Anglais to the National Theatre, following the covered Paillon river. It holds 1,600 trees, 6,000 shrubs and 50,000 perennials, plus a 3,000 m² water mirror with 128 jets and a 1,400 m² mist plateau.
The greenway opened on 26 October 2013, after work began in 2010 with the demolition of Nice's bus station and its suspended gardens. The project cost forty million euros. In January 2020 Mayor Christian Estrosi presented a one-kilometre extension of just under eight hectares, inaugurated on 18 October 2025.
It hosts the Nice Jazz Festival and provides exhibition spaces where locals and visitors gather for outdoor cultural events. The setting brings together people from different backgrounds around music and art throughout the year.
The space is open daily and free to enter, making it accessible to everyone at any time. Separate pathways and different zones allow you to choose your route based on your interests.
The water mirror covers 3,000 m² and runs on 128 jets, while a separate mist plateau of 1,400 m² sits alongside it. The park's rules forbid sitting on the lawns. East of the water mirror, a section is named espace Jacques Médecin after the former mayor of Nice.
