Promenade du Paillon, Urban greenway in central Nice, France
Promenade du Paillon is a linear green corridor running through central Nice, connecting the National Theatre to the seafront promenade. The space features planted areas, interactive water displays, playgrounds, and separate paths for walking and cycling.
It was created in 2013 on land that previously held suspended gardens, a bus station, and parking structures. The project transformed what had been a functional transport hub into a green public space.
It hosts the Nice Jazz Festival and provides exhibition spaces where locals and visitors gather for outdoor cultural events. The setting brings together people from different backgrounds around music and art throughout the year.
The space is open daily and free to enter, making it accessible to everyone at any time. Separate pathways and different zones allow you to choose your route based on your interests.
A central water mirror with numerous jets creates changing displays throughout the day. The play structures nearby are shaped to evoke marine forms, adding an unexpected design element.
