Arènes de Condrette
The Arènes de Condrette is a horseshoe-shaped sports venue in the town of Mugron in the Chalosse region, constructed from local stone with covered stands. It holds around 2,500 spectators and features a central arena for bullfights and traditional landaise competitions.
The arenas were built in 1911, replacing the earlier practice of landaise races where spectators sat in carts arranged in a circle around the event. This shift to a permanent stone structure marked the transition to a dedicated venue for the region's traditional events.
The arenas are named after their location in Mugron and reflect the deep roots of landaise racing traditions in this region. Today, the local community still gathers here to celebrate traditional festivals and keep alive the cultural practices that have been woven into daily life for generations.
The venue is easily accessible from Mugron town center and can be located using navigation apps for a straightforward visit. Dogs are welcome, and on-site parking and food stands make visits convenient for groups and families.
A unique feature is a house built into the outer wall of the arenas, which is unusual for sports venues and hints at the practical character of the place. From the stands, visitors can look out over the Adour river floodplains beyond the arena, adding scenic charm to the experience.
