Auberge De Jeunesse Du Moulin Blanc, Youth hostel and historical monument at Moulin Blanc, Brest, France.
Auberge de Jeunesse du Moulin Blanc is a youth hostel and listed historical monument featuring six interconnected buildings of concrete and wood situated near the waterfront. The facility houses approximately 136 guests in shared rooms equipped with bunk beds, and communal bathrooms serve all residents.
Architect Roland Schweitzer developed the design in 1968, and the building received permits a decade later in 1981. Construction was completed in May 1983.
The buildings showcase a mid-century design philosophy that values shared spaces where guests naturally encounter one another throughout the day.
The hostel sits conveniently near the harbor with easy pedestrian access from central areas of the city. Rooms are simply furnished and bathrooms are shared across the building, so guests should plan accordingly.
The entire complex earned protection as a registered historical monument in September 2018, an unusual honor for a youth hostel. This recognition highlights how the ensemble represents a rare and well-executed example of post-war architecture.
