Jardin antique méditerranéen

The Mediterranean Antique Garden is a botanical space that spreads across roughly 1.7 hectares and overlooks Thau Lagoon. The site is divided into seven different sections, each displaying distinct Mediterranean plant species and their arrangements.

The garden was created to recreate cultivation methods and plant arrangements from the first century before the common era through the third century after it. This reconstruction draws from Roman and Greek gardening techniques of that period.

The garden shows how people in the ancient Mediterranean used plants for healing, religious ceremonies, and growing food. This connection between plants and daily life becomes visible through the different sections that represent these various purposes.

The garden is open from Tuesday through Sunday and offers audio guides in multiple languages. The site has accessibility features for visitors with disabilities, making it easy to explore the grounds.

The site includes pergolas, fountains, and a small amphitheater integrated into the plant collections. These architectural elements were typical of Roman gardens and help visitors understand how gardens served as social and ceremonial spaces.
