Gorges de Daluis Regional Nature Reserve

Gorges de Daluis is a nature reserve featuring dramatic red cliffs carved by the Var River through layers of reddish sandstone and volcanic rock. The canyon displays multiple rock layers in different color tones, from deep red to orange and brown, showing the region's complex geological history.

The protected area was established in 2012 to preserve geological formations created from volcanic deposits and sediments laid down over millions of years. The rocks tell stories of ancient seas and tectonic movements that shaped the landscape.

Local communities use the canyon as a place for hiking and nature exploration, with the red rock formations serving as a distinctive landmark in the region. Visitors notice how the geological layers look like an open book, telling stories of Earth's ancient past.

Marked hiking trails lead through the area with several viewpoints offering good views of the cliffs. Wear sturdy footwear and check weather conditions beforehand, as trail accessibility can change depending on the season.

The gorge contains rare minerals like barrotite and gilmarite, found in very few places worldwide, embedded within its red pelite rocks. This rarity makes the geological composition globally noteworthy.
