Chateau de Canisy

The granite castle features two main wings, medieval towers from the 13th century, and extensive gardens spread across 800 acres of Norman countryside.

The construction of the current structure began in 1558 under the guidance of architect François Gabriel, replacing an earlier fortified tower from 1066.

The Kergorlay family has maintained ownership of this property for nearly 1000 years, preserving its heritage through generations of French nobility.

Located 300 kilometers from Paris and 8 kilometers from Saint-Lô, the castle operates as a hotel with over 50 rooms, including drawing rooms and dining areas.

During World War II, the castle served as a hospital for Allied soldiers after sustaining damage from German occupation and regional bombardments.
