Chateau de Canisy, Renaissance castle in Canisy, France
Chateau de Canisy is a Renaissance castle in Normandy with two main wings and medieval towers from the 13th century. The property includes expansive gardens and blends earlier fortification elements with structures built during the Renaissance period.
The original fortification dates to the 11th century on this site. The current Renaissance structure was built starting in 1558 and transformed the location into a residential manor.
The Kergorlay family has maintained ownership of this property for nearly 1000 years, preserving its heritage through generations of French nobility.
The castle sits in a rural setting about 8 kilometers from Saint-Lo in Normandy. The grounds can be explored on foot, with the gardens offering plenty of space to walk through.
During World War II, the castle served as a shelter for wounded Allied soldiers. This episode left marks on the building that connect its architecture to broader historical events.
