Château de Coulommiers-en-Brie

Château de Coulommiers-en-Brie is a castle ruin in the Brie region, with only foundations and some pavilions remaining from its original design. The site is now part of a public park where visitors can walk among the preserved remnants.

Catherine de Gonzague commissioned construction in 1613 under architect Salomon de Brosse, but the project remained unfinished after her death in 1629. The Duke of Luynes ordered the remaining structure demolished in the following century.

The castle design combined French architectural elements with Italian influences, featuring four pavilions connected by two galleries spanning 85 meters in length.

The site is accessible through the Parc des Capucins, where the preserved pavilions and entrance structures can be visited freely. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended for exploring the grounds thoroughly.

The castle was planned as an ambitious project by a duchess but was demolished rather than completed after her death. Today only the foundations and a few pavilions remain, telling the story of an unfinished dream.
