Camp d'Attila, Archaeological site in La Cheppe, France

The fortified settlement spans thirty hectares, featuring seven-meter-high ditches and earthen ramparts that form an elliptical defensive structure.

The site originated as a Gallic oppidum in the first century BCE before becoming a Roman military installation during the subsequent occupation period.

Archaeological excavations between 1861 and 1865 revealed ancient dwellings, burial grounds, and numerous artifacts now displayed at the Saint-Germain-en-Laye Museum.

The site maintains open access for visitors while certain sections remain under private ownership, requiring attention to posted boundary markers.

During World War I, the ancient defensive structure served as an ammunition depot, adding a modern military chapter to its extensive history.
