Maison du Grand Veneur

Maison du Grand Veneur is a four-story gothic house with pointed arches on the ground floor and paired windows with gothic detailing across the upper facade. The vertical arrangement of windows creates a rhythmic pattern typical of medieval town architecture.

The house was built in the first half of the 14th century as a residence for a wealthy family in the growing town. Its name comes from a hunting scene carved in stone, reflecting the pastimes of the upper classes.

The name comes from a hunting scene depicted in decorative stonework. Inside, French-style painted ceilings and gothic niches feature checkerboard patterns and fleur-de-lis motifs that reflect medieval craftsmanship.

The building sits in the medieval old town perched on a hillside, so expect steep streets and uneven cobblestones. Walking is the best way to access it and comfortable shoes are recommended.

The interior preserves a large hall spanning multiple floors, offering a rare glimpse into the room layout of wealthy homes from this period. This space was unusually large for private houses and suggests the high status of the family.
