Château de Noaillac

Château de Noaillac is a castle in Penne-d'Agenais that combines walls and towers from different centuries. The buildings show how they were expanded and rebuilt over time, with thick stone walls and a pronounced southern side that faces toward the valley.

A Romanesque tower was built at the end of the 12th century and formed the castle's core. Over the following centuries it was expanded and altered by noble families until it reached its present form.

The castle demonstrates the evolution of architectural styles and noble lifestyles through the centuries in the Lot-et-Garonne region.

The castle sits high on a hilltop and requires some effort to climb. It pays to wear good footwear and bring plenty of water, especially on hot days.

The castle was elevated to a marquisate in 1696, changing its official rank. Later it remained in one family for generations, giving the place a sense of continuity that shaped how locals view it.
