Hôtel de Navarre, Historical private mansion in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, France.
Hôtel de Navarre is a private mansion in the 6th arrondissement of Paris with facades featuring Louis XV ornamental ironwork. The entrance is crowned with an interrupted pediment framed by rusticated pilasters, and the property has been divided into two separate buildings since 1640, numbered 47 and 49 rue Saint-André-des-Arts.
A medieval ruler commissioned the first residence on this site in the 13th century, which was later transformed. In the 17th century, the building acquired its current Louis XV design and was divided into two separate properties.
The mansion's name references a historical ruler and reflects the social standing associated with such private residences in the medieval city. The neighborhood where it stands was historically occupied by wealthy Parisians who shaped the character of this street through their presence.
The buildings sit on a busy street in the heart of the Latin Quarter, easily accessible by public transport. Since these are private residences, you can best appreciate the architectural details from the street and exterior facades.
The entrance portal is decorated with a faun head mascaron and rocaille motifs characteristic of French Rococo ornament. These playful elements reveal how wealthy residents embraced the decorative fashions and craftsmanship of their era.
